A new flagship children’s playground is set to be ready for use in August at Stone Recreation Ground, providing local children with some exciting last few weeks of the summer holiday.

As the first feature of the Stone Recreation Ground Masterplan scheme, Stone Parish Council is installing the super-playground to be a key focal point for the site, set to receive a £1.3m upgrade over the next few years.

The new £150,000 playground will include sensory and inclusive equipment and comprise of zoned areas for pre-school, primary and teenage users to ensure all age groups are catered for.

The final design was awarded to play equipment supplier Kompan after public consultation carried out earlier this year generated over a hundred responses providing input on preferred requirements.

Although originally aiming for completion ahead of the school summer holiday, delays with overseas shipments has pushed the programme of works back a few weeks. Completion of the playground is expected around 20th August, with an official opening event being planned for the August bank holiday on Monday 30th.

Chairman of the council Lucy Canham said,

“We are delighted to be delivering the first of many planned improvements at Stone Recreation Ground.

The new playground is set to provide a fantastic range for all ages, including sensory and inclusive play equipment to ensure our parish children are well catered for.

It is regretful, but unavoidable, that the playground will be out of use for the first few weeks of the summer holiday while installation takes place, but we thought it would be beneficial to enable use of the new playground before children go back to school in September.

Although we hope the playground will be ready a little earlier, we are looking forward to the launch event and hope local families will come along to enjoy the new facilities.”
