New council chairman Keith Kelly

Stone Parish Council has elected Councillor Keith Kelly as it’s new chairman at the recent annual council meeting.

Keith Kelly was elected as the new chairman after John Burrell stepped down after nine years in the role. Stephanie Thredgle was re-elected to continue serving as council vice-chairman.

The council’s annual meeting had been postponed from it’s usual date in May due to ongoing COVID restrictions and was instead held virtually.

The council has a number of community schemes in the pipeline for 2021, including the opening of the Claire Tiltman Centre in Cotton Lane, upgrades to Stone Recreation Ground as part of its new masterplan, and implementation of priorities in the forthcoming strategic plan.

Councillor Kelly expressed thanks to the council for his election and said, “I look forward to representing the council as its Chairman for the coming year. I have a very hard act to follow, John Burrell has been a very effective and popular Chairman. This is a very exciting time for Stone Parish Council, and I am really pleased to be part of it.

On retiring as chairman, Councillor Burrell said, “I have enjoyed my nine years as Chairman of the Parish CouncilI am very proud of what we have achieved and are set to achieve in the future. I will continue to serve as a councillor for Castle Ward and wish the best of luck to the new Chairman.”

Council members also voted in favour of holding online bi-monthly full council meetings for the foreseeable future. The next Council meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th November at 6pm. Links for the public to join council meetings are posted on the council’s website.
