Stone Parish Council has awarded further grant funding of £3.5k to local organisations helping children and vulnerable families during the COVID pandemic.

The council awarded £500 to the YMCA of Thames Gateway, that supports over 250 families who use their nurseries and after-school clubs as well as many other vulnerable members of the community. Over Christmas hampers were delivered to vulnerable families across the Dartford area and this funding will enable them to continue delivering essential items to vulnerable people.

The council also awarded £500 to the Stone Lodge School PTA who are fundraising and looking for ways to support the children at the school including setting up a hardship fund for children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This funding will support the purchasing of essential school equipment and school clothing for those who have been financially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

To assist children’s learning and improve access to appropriate digital devices, £2,500 was awarded to the Brent Primary School, who currently only have 18 laptops to support 585 pupils and have been struggling to provide an effective curriculum.  The school plans to purchase 96 laptops and 2 Chromebooks to support children with additional needs, which this funding will assist with.

Many children are currently struggling to complete schoolwork as they do not have access to appropriate IT equipment. If anyone has computers, laptops or tablets they are not using, please consider donating these to one of the schools in the area to help a child study remotely.
